"Verschaeren is the future ambassador of Belgian football"

INTERVIEWS Yari Verschaeren can report to the Red Devils for the first time on Monday. "A surprise", the midfielder indicates. However, national coach Martinez does not hesitate. "With its technique, Yari fits perfectly into our group."


At the press conference where Martinez announced his selection, the national coach took the praise. "Yari is a great talent, I look forward to working with him," said the national coach. "He is the future ambassador of Belgian football."

Martinez also praises the personality of Verschaeren. "How he combined football and studies, that was wonderful to see. He is very strong in his head. He does not hide himself on the field. This selection is therefore not too early."

Verschaeren: "Very happy"

In conversation with Het Laatste Nieuws, Verschaeren says that he did not see this first selection coming. "Of course I am very happy with this. I think my performance at the U19 and U21 played a role in convincing the national coach. That was my plan, too. But I did not expect it to go that fast."
