Boeckx stops playing football and becomes goalkeeper coach

OTHER Frank Boeckx had a lot of back problems in recent years. That is why the 33-year-old goalkeeper, in consultation with Anderlecht, has decided not to extend his expiring contract. However, Boeckx will remain with the club, as he will take on the role of goalkeeper coach of the U21.


Boeckx came to Anderlecht on a free transfer in the summer of 2015, initially as competitor of Silvio Proto. He eventually managed to enforce a place in the starting eleven and had an important hand in the title in the 2016/2017 season. Boeckx managed to keep his nets clean eight times in fifteen games.

Afterwards, Boeckx started to suffer more and more from injuries, always at the back. For that reason, Boeckx is forced to put an end to his active football career early.

With Jelle ten Rouwelaar, Anderlecht already got a new goalkeeper coach for next season. ten Rouwelaar will act as goalkeeper coach for the goalkeepers of the first team. Boeckx gets the U21 goalkeepers. Max de Jong says goodbye to the club after eight years of loyal service.
