OTHER Percy Tau does not appear to be the savior leading Brighton & Hove Albion to safety in the Premier League. The South African has been on the bench for more than a month without getting any playing minutes.
At the end of December, Brighton called Tau back from his loan to Anderlecht. His work permit was in order and Brighton thought it could use Tau in the relegation battle.
In the first game after the winter break, at Manchester City, Tau was immediately in the starting eleven and played 68 minutes. Three days later, on January 16 against Leeds, he was allowed to come in for 17 minutes. That's it. In the six Premier League matches that have followed since, Tau has remained on the bench for ninety minutes. Also yesterday against Crystal Palace, The Lion of Judah got no playing minutes.
In the FA Cup, Tau, like many other substitutes and youngsters, is allowed to play. In it, his counter is at 200 minutes divided over three matches. Two weeks ago he played the full match against Leicester. Brighton lost with 1-0 and was eliminated.
