Mehssatou Sunday against Anderlecht: "I play to win".

INTERVIEWS Anderlecht goes to Kortrijk on Sunday and there, Nayel Mehssatou is currently playing at left back. The 19-year old defender left Anderlecht in January for the blokes. It will be a happy reunion. "I'm very grateful to Anderlecht for the professional guidance I got there", Mehssatou looks ahead on the website of KVK.


Mehssatou was part of Anderlecht's first team, but played his matches with the U21. Vincent Kompany let him play a few times in practice, but an official game was out of the question. So he looked for a chance to play in first division at Kortrijk. "It was a very difficult decision to leave Anderlecht, but the project Kortrijk offered me was interesting. I'm certainly not complaining", says Mehsattou, who played thirteen years in Anderlecht's youth team.

At Kortrijk, the young Belgian started as a bench player, but the past four matches, he played from the first to the last minute. Not as a right back like at Anderlecht, but on the left back. He replaces the injured Karel D'Haene and does a good job. "With the youth of Anderlecht they pay a lot of attention to two-footedness," Mehsattou said. "And the rhythm is higher here than with the U23s of Anderlecht."

On Sunday, Mehssatou will take on 'his' Anderlecht. He will not give his old friends the much-needed three points for the Champions' Play-Offs. "When you are on the pitch, you always play to win. Whether it's against Anderlecht or another club, it doesn't matter."
