No transfer fee for Vertonghen

TRANSFERS Anderlecht and Jan Vertonghen are currently negotiating the financial terms of a contract. The record international can sign for two years. Anderlecht doesn't have to worry about the transfer fee. According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Benfica wants to let him go for free.


Vertonghen still has a contract for one season at Benfica, but he is only the fourth choice at central back. Benfica wants to cooperate in a transfer and is willing to dissolve Vertonghen's contract. Vertonghen's salary could become an obstacle though. Currently he earns around four million euros per year. Such amounts Anderlecht can not and will not pay.

According to Het Laatste Nieuws, Vertonghen may already come to Belgium today to finalize the transfer. Het Nieuwsblad on the other hand writes that he will come to our country tomorrow. 

Anyway, the chance that Vertonghen will soon play in purple and white, seems very high.
