TRANSFERS The long-awaited news is here: Jan Vertonghen has signed a two-year contract with Anderlecht. The Belgian record international (139 international matches) will receive shirt number 14. "In the past there were already contacts, but suddenly all the pieces of the puzzle fell together," Vertonghen said in a first reaction.

"I've been following the club's project for some time and I'm convinced that with my experience I can bring something to this group," Vertonghen said. "This is just the right step in my career and I am looking forward immensely to playing my first game at the Lotto Park."

CEO Peter Verbeke is delighted that a big player like Vertonghen has chosen Anderlecht's project. "Jan is highly motivated to give everything for this club in the next two seasons. He has concrete goals in mind with RSCA. With his winner's mentality, experience and of course his qualities, he is a great asset to this core."

For Vertonghen, it is the first time he will play in the Belgian first division. He left our country as a 14-year-old to join Ajax. This was followed by many great years at Tottenham. The past two seasons Vertonghen was a fixed value at Benfica. Last season he played ten duels in the Champions League.
