INTERVIEWS Wesley Hoedt got the blame after the game against West Ham. He appeared to be at fault for the goal against, but defended himself afterwards in front of the Sporza microphone. "I had to step out, otherwise the other one was going to shoot. If one gets out, another has to cover back. That didn't happen."

"I think there was more in it," Hoedt opened his interview with Sporza. "It's painful to lose, because I think we played a good game. It was a balanced match in which they also had some chances. At the end we had a great chance to score a goal. That just had to go in."

"Whether it's a difference in quality in the two rectangles? Maybe so. As a team we wanted to show a reaction after the criticism in recent days. We wanted to fight for the club colors, but that has to be the basis. It was there today. Only we missed that extra touch to really hurt them."

On the opposing goal, Hoedt seemed to be at fault for stepping in. Why did he do that? "I had to, because otherwise that one was going to shoot," Hoedt said. That's how Scamacca did get free. "We stand with three central defenders. If one steps out, another has to back up. That didn't happen."

"We know it wasn't good enough today and that it has to be much better," the defender concluded.
