INTERVIEWS Like a proud and happy coach, Guillaume Gillet boarded the bus back to Anderlecht in Deinze on Saturday. His RSCA Futures secured a place in the Promotion Play-offs with a strong performance. "All the players knew their task," he said.
Anderlecht needed to win in Deinze for a place in the top six and a ticket for the Promotion Play-offs. Four minutes before time, Nilson Angulo kicked the liberating 2-3 against the ropes.
RSCA Futures' sixth-place finish can be seen as a very punishing achievement. Both at the end of August (Bouchouari and Colassin) and in January (Lokesa, Ait El Hadj and Agyei), the team saw key players leave. In between, N'Diaye, Verbruggen and Sardella moved to the A-core and Butera was out for a long spell with an injury. Léoni and Stassin also missed matches as the A-team needed them.
So coach Guillaume Gillet cannot fall back on many automatisms. "Yet I had no fear because of this, as all players knew their task," Gillet told Het Nieuwsblad after the game in Deinze.
That the RSCA Futures will play the Promotion Play-offs and take on strong teams like RWDM, Beerschot and Beveren is a huge boost in his opinion. "The ten top matches coming up now are ideal for the growth process of these young players," the coach said.
