OTHER In Monday's analysis, the Professional Refereeing Department discusses two phases from Anderlecht's match at OH Leuven. First, the penalty kick phase is discussed. It was handled correctly there. Very different was when Francis Amuzu was torpedoed in the closing stages.

About the penalty phase, the Professional Refereeing Department writes that Dreyer was hit by Mendyl on his foot. The referee first allowed play to continue, but VAR intervened afterwards and asked the referee to come and review the footage. "After seeing the footage, the referee decides to award a penalty kick. A justified decision by the referee after a correct VAR intervention," the Professional Refereeing Department reported.

Foul on Amuzu

Ten minutes before referee and VAR did close their eyes to a very firm foul on Amuzu. "Amuzu goes through at speed. OHL defender Ricca arrives from midfield with high intensity and hits the Anderlecht player on the leg with stretched leg above the ground and the studs forward," the Professional Refereeing Department described the phase.

"Ricca endangers the opponent's safety. The referee lets play on and does not come back to this foul. The VAR does not intervene either. The Professional Refereeing Department expects a red card for serious foul play and a VAR intervention for a 'missed incident'," it reads.

Fortunately for Anderlecht, Amuzu got off without an injury and the incident did not affect the outcome of the match.
