GAMES - YOUTH Jacky Mathijssen, national coach of the Belgian U21, has just announced his preliminary selection for the European U21 Championship. Zeno Debast is Anderlecht's only player. Killian Sardella was in the pre selection, but thus seems to have to stay at home.
The Belgian Football Association informs that it is a preliminary selection. Only on 14 June will it have to submit the final selection to UEFA. Injuries or transfers to the A-team (due to unexpected cancellations there) might cause some changes.
So only Debast of Anderlecht will be there. However, several players from purple and white did their bit during the qualification round. Sardella played four games and was in the pre-selection, but has to follow the European Championship from home. Marco Kana was also a regular (eight games). Lucas Lissens was allowed to fill in twice. Yari Verschaeren, who made six appearances, would undoubtedly have been there without his injury.
The European Championship takes place from 9 June to 2 July in Georgia and Romania. Belgium will play against the Netherlands (21 June at 6pm), Georgia (24 June at 6pm) and Portugal (27 June at 6pm). The matches can be watched live on VRT and RTBF.
