OTHER Yesterday afternoon, CEO Sports Jesper Fredberg gave a little uiitigation on the dismissal of Brian Riemer. Anderlecht does not seem to be in an extreme hurry to find a successor and wants above all to make the right choice.

Fredberg obviously thanked his compatriot for the work of the past few years, citing last season's Conference League campaign and play-offs as highlights. The board felt that the league had started quite well this time too, but that better performance was needed. Riemer accepted his resignation with his head held high.

Fredberg said he was reluctant to take this decision because Riemer worked very hard for the club. He also stressed that the disappointing results were a shared responsibility. Fredberg suggested that the club is ready to take the next step. He also added that the decision was taken by the management and not by the players. We saw Fredberg chatting with Coosemans, Vertonghen and Rits after the game yesterday, but this conversation is therefore separate from Riemers' dismissal.

David Hubert must now step in briefly(?) as head coach. Fredberg said he is well surrounded by the staff and knows the club. Hubert played with the Futures and coaches the U18.

Hubert is not expected to stay on as coach, though. ‘Brian was the perfect coach at the time and we have already made strides since his arrival,' Fredberg said. The CEO said that all avenues are being looked at of candidates who can make Anderlecht take another step forward. So it could be either a coach without a club, or a coach currently working somewhere.

Fredberg did approach that they will not take anyone just to take someone quickly. ‘We are going to take our time,' the Danish CEO concluded.
