In the podcast Koolcast Sport, Romelu Lukaku reaffirmed that he will return to Anderlecht. Indirectly, he even hinted at the timing. ‘Return? That's going to happen anyway. And I still want to play decently then and be competitive. Suppose I return in two years and we lose a game, I'm going to be angry.'
Last week, Lukaku was a guest at Lotto Park. When he received a standing ovation, he got emotional for a moment. ‘I really cried,' he admits. ‘A lot was going through me. From when I was six years old, I dreamt of playing in front of those fans. All the moments came back: me scoring in the first team, seeing my parents cheering in the stands, the difficult moments. I am honest: Anderlecht helped me, saved my family so to speak. Anderlecht and the fans have given me love. You are one of them. That grabbed me.'
Presenter Gilles then reminded Lukaku of his promise to return one day. ‘That's going to happen anyway. I just want to come back at a good level. Not to wind down. I still want to play decently then and be competitive. Like Simon Mignolet: to make a club champion. Even if it's not the club I want.'
‘I don't want to come back and have people say ‘he is deteriorating'. Suppose I come back in two years and we lose a game, I'm going to be angry. I want to play champions. That's the mentality I grew up with in Neerpede. We have to go back to that. We shouldn't be afraid to express that either.'Copyright © 2000-2025 - www.anderlecht-online.be - RSC Anderlecht unofficial fansite
