INTERVIEWS Lucas Biglia has explained his departure as assistant coach at Anderlecht. The 40-year-old Argentine resigned on Friday after head coach Besnik Hasi was sacked. According to Biglia, his decision was purely out of loyalty, not for family reasons as had been suggested.
The former midfielder, who played more than 300 matches for Anderlecht between 2006 and 2013, said he was surprised by reports that he had returned to Italy for private reasons. "That's not true. I left only out of respect for Besnik Hasi," Biglia said, adding that he communicated this clearly through the club and on social media.

Continue reading Biglia stressed hisclose bond with Hasi, who brought him back to Anderlecht and gave him the opportunity to gain coaching experience. "He gave me this chance. When he was dismissed, I decided to leave with him."
His departure is a loss for the playing group, where Biglia enjoyed considerable respect. He said he is disappointed that after six months' work he cannot continue to support the players, but that loyalty to Hasi was more important.
In the meantime Biglia has returned to Italy, where he wants to continue his coaching career. He is in talks with Atalanta Bergamo's youth academy and hopes to work next season as a head coach in Italy's second or third tier. He does not rule out a return to Belgium in the future.
