Penalty phase raises much controversy

Penalty phase raises much controversy

The phase in which Racing Genk was not allowed to retake the penalty is causing a lot of controversy. It is not even impossible that the match will have to be (partially) replayed. Not only did Sor enter the penalty area too early, but Yari Verschaeren was also too quick. And that is precisely where the shoe pinches. When players of both clubs enter the penalty area too early, the penalty has to be replayed. Since a mistake was made against the rules, it seems likely that this will be followed up. Read more »

Anderlecht grabs unexpected win in closing stages

Anderlecht grabs unexpected win in closing stages

Anderlecht won 2-1 against a strong Genk. Purple and white played one of their weakest matches this season, although the emergency defense resisted with heart and soul. Genk was simply better in ball possession and saw the 0-1 disallowed. After halftime, Genk climbed into the lead anyway through Fadera, but Anderlecht hit back immediately through a clever shot by Leoni. In the closing stages, a run by Angulo led to Anders Dreyer's 2-1. The Lotto Park exploded and realized that this win may be considered a nice Christmas present. Read more »

Antwerp scores equalizer in 89th minute

Antwerp scores equalizer in 89th minute

Anderlecht drew 1-1 at Antwerp. In an exciting match, where the game went up and down quickly, Purple-White took an early lead through Leoni through a flutter by Butez. Before halftime, both teams had good chances, but Schmeichel was attentive. After halftime, Antwerp increased the pressure and Anderlecht found it increasingly difficult to get out of the game. In the closing stages, a ball ended up with Ilenikhena, who scored the equalizer from close range. A draw at Antwerp is not bad in itself, but just like in Genk, this late equalizer left a sour aftertaste. Even though it was not entirely undeserved. Read more »
