YOUTH - INTERVIEWS On Tuesday, the heart of Brussels football beat a little faster in the municipality of Anderlecht, where young RSCA players Ali Maamar and Anas Tajaouart were celebrated for their U20 World Cup victory with the Moroccan national team.
Local Recognition for a Global Achievement
In an atmosphere blending the red and green of Morocco with the purple and white of Anderlecht, the two Brussels natives were warmly welcomed by Mayor Fabrice Cumps and Alderman for Sports Lotfi Mostefa. It was a moving and proud moment, as the champions presented personalized jerseys to the local authorities.
“Receiving this tribute here, where we grew up, is very special,” said Anas Tajaouart.
From a Triumphal Parade in Rabat to a Modest Celebration in Brussels
While the Anderlecht ceremony was more intimate, it carried strong symbolic meaning. Two weeks earlier, the streets of Rabat had been filled with cheering crowds during a bus parade, applauded by tens of thousands of supporters — an unforgettable memory for the two players, who still grasp the magnitude of their success.
“I've never felt so many emotions during a football match as I did at this World Cup. After the final, I could hardly control my feelings. I hope to experience the same with the first team, because I think it will be even crazier than with the U20s,” said Maamar.
Purple Dreams
Ali Maamar, a starter throughout the tournament in Chile, and Anas Tajaouart, a substitute but equally determined, now have their eyes set on their future at RSCA.
“This title is motivation to go further. I want to earn my place in the first team,” said Ali confidently.
Anas, for his part, hopes that his 20 minutes played in the Cup match against Ninove will become a springboard for more playing time.
A Nod to Anderlecht's Youth Academy
The ceremony also paid tribute to Mo Ouahbi, coach of Morocco's U20 team and former youth trainer at Anderlecht. His message to the young players was clear:
“With hard work, anything is possible.”
Inspiring Brussels Youth
Beyond football, Ali and Anas want to serve as role models for young people in their city.
“Football can convey values like hard work and discipline. That's what we want to show to Brussels youth.”
A proud moment for Anderlecht, seeing two of its own talents shine on the world stage.
