GAMES FC Salzburg's start to the season has been particularly convincing. The Austrians remain unbeaten in the league and are currently second in the table, just three points behind Rapid Vienna, whom they swept aside 5-1. They also hold a five-point lead over LASK Linz, the reigning champions. On the European stage, Salzburg sit 21st in the Europa League group phase, just ahead of RSC Anderlecht, with one point more to their name.
After coming through the qualifying rounds at the expense of Paphos (1-0, 3-3) and then Mjällby (0-1, 3-0), the Austrians began their European campaign with a 1-0 away win at Levski Sofia in Bulgaria. The rest, however, has been more difficult. Salzburg suffered a heavy defeat against AC Milan (4-0), before drawing with Slovenian side Celje (2-2). Despite these mixed results, they still find themselves in an ideal position in the race for qualification.
