OTHER Although Anderlecht convincingly beat OH Leuven, interim coach Jérémy Taravel tempered the post-match enthusiasm. He acknowledged the team played better than in previous games, but stressed there is still plenty of room for improvement. The success, he said, is not the result of a miracle cure. He pointed to intensive training sessions, individual talks with players and analysis of match footage as the foundations of the progress.
At the same time he warned that good results can quickly be reversed and that the team must not get complacent after a single big win. Taravel sees mainly positive developments in the attacking play: players are given more freedom in their actions, and that approach is paying off. It is important, he said, that the group remains involved and focused ahead of the coming fixtures. Since he took over, Anderlecht have put together a string of strong results and are still unbeaten.
Yet Taravel refuses to be dazzled by the numbers. He believes the team made the difference at crucial moments, while still recognising there are points to work on. With a difficult away trip to Club Brugge KV looming, Taravel views the match as a true test. It should show whether Anderlecht can create offensive danger against a strong opponent. How it will end, he for now leaves open.
