Finally some good news from the sickbay: Samuel Edozie has recovered sufficiently from his injury and will travel to Stayen tomorrow. After it was already announced that Verschaeren's injury was not too bad, he has now even been included in the selection. It is unclear whether both men can actually start. Verschaeren may have to play with extra protection. Read more »
The Anderlecht women took a heavy beating against Zulte Waregem. The home team was beaten without a chance and scored five goals. Thanks to the 0-5 victory, the gap with number three Standard is now nine points. Purple and white still have two points less than leader OH Leuven. Read more »
In a crucial match in the relegation battle, Francs Borains won 0-1 against RSCA Futures. Karim Belhocine fielded the same lineup at Francs Borains as in the previous win against Eupen, with the exception of Healy, who returned from suspension and replaced Ruiz. RSC Anderlecht won 1-2 at Slavia Prague, despite solid substitutions in the team. Goalkeeper Colin Coosemans expressed his joy over the victory and praised coach David Hubert for his choices. “The team was well prepared and we were efficient in the first half. After the break, the focus was mainly on defending. Everyone gave everything to get that win over the line,” Coosemans said. Read more »
The 1-2 win against Slavia Prague puts Anderlecht third in the Europa League with 14 points. Teams in places 8, 9 and 10 count 11 points. So with two games to go, a 3/6 would put Anderlecht very close to direct qualification for the next round, although goal difference could still play a role (and therein it is exciting to say the least). After an eight-month absence due to injury, Thorgan Hazard looks set to celebrate his return to the field. The Anderlecht player could make his return during the last home game of the year, on Dec. 27 against Dender. With the injuries to Killian Sardella and Mario Stroeykens, that would be a welcome reinforcement. The RSCA Futures suffered a disappointing defeat against Club NXT after a six-game unbeaten streak. The team started the second half weakly, resulting in a 3-0 loss. All goals fell in a short period I the second half. Coach Jelle Coen was visibly disappointed with this solid defeat. “We were in a good flow and expected a different result,” he said. Read more »
Louis Patris played the full match for Sint-Truiden against Ghent. Unfortunately, STVV had to settle for a 2-0 defeat, which currently leaves them in 13th place in the standings; a relegation spot. Anderlecht had to toil until the very last minute against Beerschot. It eventually won deservedly 2-1 with a goal by Anders Dreyer in minute 92. Anderlecht played very weak before halftime and could breathe a sigh of relief when Verschaeren (also in extra time) netted the equalizer just before halftime after Al-Sahafi (him again) had headed Beerschot into the lead early. Despite Westerlo taking an early lead with Van den Keybus capitalizing on lax defending, Anderlecht quickly equalized through Zanka's controlled strike. With the international break coming to an end, Belgium qualified for the European Championships, the RSCA Women turn their attention to the Cup. This weekend they have an important match on the schedule, taking on Club YLA on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m. The match will take place at the RSCA Academy and will be conducted by referee Leandro Ledda. In the previous round, Anderlecht managed to qualify by beating Gent 2-0, while Club YLA qualified with a 2-4 win over Zulte Waregem. Read more »
