The call came while he was abroad

The call came while he was abroad

Olivier Renard is no longer sports director of RSC Anderlecht. On Sunday evening, after the 2-0 defeat against RC Genk, he received the news by phone while he was abroad on private business. The club chose to act quickly, even though Renard had known for some time that his position was shaky. Read more »

Controversial goal leads to another defeat

Controversial goal leads to another defeat

Anderlecht lost again, this time 2-0 in Genk. A contentious goal in the 68th minute set the tone for the defeat: a clear foul on Saliba in the build-up was not punished, and shortly afterwards Genk doubled their lead. Anderlecht hardly looked like turning the game around and only mustered a chance in stoppage time. This time Anderlecht were not to blame for an individual error or a poor spell; they were unlucky with a refereeing decision. Read more »

RSCA Futures win at the final minutes

RSCA Futures win at the final minutes

RSCA Futures finally returned to winning ways after taking just two points from their previous four matches. The Futures, who played the final half hour with ten men, won 2-1 at Seraing. It was a narrow victory: Devon De Corte only sealed the win in the 90th minute by converting a penalty. Pape Aliya N'dao opened the scoring early to make it 0-1 for Anderlecht. Read more »

Preview: Genk - Anderlecht

Preview: Genk - Anderlecht

After another setback against Antwerp in the Croky Cup, Anderlecht must travel to Racing Genk. The Limburg side are underperforming relative to expectations, but they remain active in Europe. Still will in any case be without De Cat, who is suspended, so he will once again have to reshuffle his team. There are also several question marks because a number of players are in a form crisis. Edward Still sees positives after turbulent first game as head coach

Edward Still sees positives after turbulent first game as head coach

For interim coach Edward Still, his first evening in charge of Anderlecht was one of contrasts. The baptism of fire at the helm of the Mauve-and-white went differently than hoped, but it also offered points to build on. “It was an exceptionally intense match,” Still reflected. “It could have gone worse, but equally it could have been much better. Coosemans: 'With nine men, 0-1 was the best we could do'

Coosemans: 'With nine men, 0-1 was the best we could do'

Anderlecht goalkeeper and captain Colin Coosemans once again emerged as a key figure. Especially in the closing stages he kept the purple-and-white — reduced to nine men — in the game and prevented a heavier defeat, thereby keeping Anderlecht's hopes alive for the return leg. "Of course you'd rather play with eleven," he said afterwards, "but with nine we fought collectively. Everyone threw themselves into it. Read more »

Martens also being considered as new coach

Martens also being considered as new coach

In their search for a new coach, Anderlecht had been in contact in recent days with Maarten Martens. The 41-year-old Martens is a youth product of Anderlecht and delivered good work at AZ in recent years, although he was sacked there two weeks ago. Martens joined Anderlecht as an eight-year-old in 1992. He made it into the first-team squad but never went further than a single substitute appearance. Read more »

Anderlecht also narrowly beaten in the Croky Cup

Anderlecht also narrowly beaten in the Croky Cup

Anderlecht lost 0-1 in the first leg of the Croky Cup semi-final. Antwerp will be the most aggrieved: they finished the match with nine men after red cards for Sardella (second yellow) and Diarra. An once again desperately weak Anderlecht did show some commitment, but suffered from a clear lack of quality. It created only half-chances, meaning a near-miracle will be required next week at the Bosuil. Read more »

Defeat deals Anderlecht a heavy blow

Defeat deals Anderlecht a heavy blow

Anderlecht lost the 'clasico' 2-0 and have collected just two points out of fifteen now. Standard, the side that showed more commitment, took full advantage twice of poor defending from the Mauves: once around the half-hour mark, once just after the break. Anderlecht failed to take their moments through Bertaccini — scoring remains a major problem — and qualification for Play-Off 1 is now in acute danger. Anderlecht can be caught up with on the next matchday. Read more »

Three points looked secure, but the Futures gave them away at the end

Three points looked secure, but the Futures gave them away at the end

RSCA Futures drew 2-2 against Lierse yesterday evening. Jayden Onia Seke seemed to have handed Anderlecht all three points in extra time, but two minutes later Lierse struck back to level the score — and they did so despite having been reduced to nine men. Lierse confirmed the signing of Alexandre Stani? today, and the newcomer opened the scoring in his very first match following an error by keeper Imbrechts. The Futures created the bulk of the chances, but finding the net proved surprisingly difficult. Read more »

Vazquez scores straight away for Getafe

Vazquez scores straight away for Getafe

Is it down to poor passing, the style of play or the coaching? Who can say... The fact remains that Vazquez hardly made an impression at Anderlecht, but in his first match for Getafe he scored straight away. Vazquez struck the opening goal neatly into the top corner. Read more »

Hasi remains Anderlecht coach (for now)

Hasi remains Anderlecht coach (for now)

The crisis meeting is over. Olivier Renard, his right-hand man Thibault Dochy and CEO Kenneth Bornauw decided that Besnik Hasi remains Anderlecht's coach — for now. The question is how long that will last if Anderlecht does not urgently recover. Chairman Verschueren was abroad and therefore did not attend the meeting. Read more »

Disappointing Anderlecht held to 0-0

Disappointing Anderlecht held to 0-0

Another heavy disappointment for Anderlecht, who failed to get past the league's bottom club. Dender were actually the better side before the interval, with Anderlecht virtually non-existent. After the break, the home side could certainly have taken the lead during a messy phase, but overall they created far too little danger. The red alarm can quietly be raised: with just one point from the last three matches, Anderlecht now travel to Standard and Genk. Read more »

Another convincing victory for the Futures in England

Another convincing victory for the Futures in England

For their third match in the Premier League International Cup, Anderlecht's U23 visited Leeds. As in their two previous appearances, the young Purple & White shone and convincingly defeated a powerless English team 0-3. With 7 out of 9 and one game less, they are currently third; only a victory against West Ham, which is still pointless in three games, can put them in first place and earn them a ticket to the next round. The U23 dominated the entire game and were rarely troubled by a Leeds team that was clearly outclassed.

Anderlecht loses in the final stages

Anderlecht loses in the final stages

Anderlecht and away matches remain a major problem. The Purple & White lost 4-2 in Ghent, having led 1-2 until the 81st minute, thanks to two goals from Angulo. After the break, Anderlecht did absolutely nothing to extend their lead. They immediately fell back, completely handing Gent the initiative, which completely backfired in the final stages after goals from Araujo and Dean. In the final minute, Goore made it 4-2 in an empty net. Read more »
