Preview: Anderlecht - Club Brugge

Preview: Anderlecht - Club Brugge

At the start of the second half of the Champions' Play-offs the balance for Anderlecht looks insufficient, with just six points. The level of play remains very inconsistent and, above all, inadequate. Crucial weeks lie ahead in which Anderlecht must try to finish fourth, and of course there is also the cup final. Can the Purple-and-Whites build on the promising first half against Union, or will the quality gap become clear again as it was in the first half in Bruges? Read more »

Taravel: “The red card changed everything”

Taravel: “The red card changed everything”

After a frustrating Brussels derby, Jérémy Taravel offered a surprisingly positive assessment. Despite the 1-3 loss to Union Saint-Gilloise, the Anderlecht coach emphasized the quality of the play, both before—and even after—the red card that turned the match upside down. "We were the better team when we had possession, but we conceded two goals that were too easy. The red card completely changed the course of the game," Reduced to ten men, the Purple & White had to adjust their plan, but Taravel emphasizes that his team didn't collapse. On the contrary: they remained compact and disciplined.

Anderlecht loses to efficient Union

Anderlecht loses to efficient Union

Anderlecht played the better game in the Champions' Play-offs but still lost 1-3 to Union. The decisive moment was Sardella's red card just before half-time — harsh and, at the same time, very foolish. At that moment Anderlecht trailed 1-2, but had put in a creditable performance against the champions. After the break the home side still scrambled, yet Union's 1-3 put the result beyond doubt. Futures finish the season with a 5-0 win

Futures finish the season with a 5-0 win

RSCA Futures closed a difficult season on a high with a 5-0 win over Olympic Charleroi, the bottom club in the Challenger Pro League. The Futures thus finish a disappointing fourteenth, although they are still ten points clear of second-bottom Club NXT. Thanks to the league's rules, Anderlecht was never in real danger of relegation — relegation would have required another U23 club to go up, which did not occur. RWDM are paying the price of that arrangement this season. Read more »

Anderlecht just inside top six after yet another defeat

Anderlecht finished sixth in the league after a 2-3 defeat to Cercle Brugge. Mauves were uninspired and comprehensively outplayed before the interval by a sharp Cercle, who led 1-3 after 45 minutes.
